Matt Weeder, a current MBA Agribusiness student from Lindsay, NE recently completed The Valuations and Buffett Investment Methodology finance elective offered through UNL's MBA program. Here are Matt's comments on the course. "The course taught us how to value a company the way Buffett does and replicate these methods as closely as we could by applying Buffet's investment tenets and picking our own stocks for a portfolio. It was very valuable information with real life application for many of us trying to arrive at sound value measurements for companies amid all this financial turmoil.
As part of the course Matt and his fellow classmates were able to spend several hours with Warren Buffett. Here are Matt's comments on his visit with Warren Buffett.
"The visit was once in a lifetime! It was truly incredible to be in the presence of such a knowledgeable, well-versed, and yet absolutely down-to-earth person."

Scott Nedved, August 2005 Graduate, worked with Professor Ray Supalla on the Water Optimizer while on assistantship in the MBA Agribusiness Program. The Water Optimizer is a decision support tool for producers with limited water.
The Water Optimizer tool was developed in response to several years of drought across the state and to farmers facing water restrictions in the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District and Republican River Basin. The tool allows users to input information into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, including soil type and irrigation system options. Irrigation options include center pivot or gravity irrigation systems, well or canal delivery, and systems powered by electricity, diesel or natural gas. After entering this basic information, producers enter their production costs, irrigation costs, crop prices, crop type and available water. After these parameters have been set, the program calculates what crops will be most profitable with the given costs and available water.
